On March 9-11, 2023, Dr. Akhil Das directed the first annual UCI HoLEP Masterclass: Laser Enucleation of the Prostate along with co-director Dr. Ahmed Ghazi (previously University of Rochester). This was a 3-day hands-on course covering HoLEP surgery for 18 attendees. Guest faculty included Drs. Smita De (Cleveland Clinic), Joel Funk (University of Arizona), Peter Gilling (University of Auckland, New Zealand), Mitchell Humphreys (Mayo Clinic), and Lori Lerner (Harvard).

The learning objectives allowed participants to identify the psychomotor skills and cognitive knowledge required to perform a laser enucleation of the prostate procedure, complete three full HoLEP procedures on simulation hydrogel models, receive one to one expert proctoring and didactic sessions, engage in discussions, and have access to a library of videos and resources for a continued reference.
