In 1979, Dr. Clayman was part of the first team that performed percutaneous stone removal at the University of Minnesota including Drs. Paul Lange and Arthur Smith.

In 1982, Journal of Endourology was established by Dr. Clayman with Drs. Arthur Smith, Joe Segura, and Gopal Badlani. Now standing as the preeminent journal of minimally invasive urology.

In 1990, the world’s first laparoscopic nephrectomy performed by Dr. Clayman. Developing the technique and technology at Washington University in St. Louis with industry partners and the teamwork of many including Drs. Nat Soper and Lou Kavoussi.

In 2002, Dr. Clayman was recruited to UCI to become the first chair of the newly created Department of Urology and within 5 years achieving a top 20 US News ranking.

Dr. Clayman was appointed Dean of School of Medicine leading the opening of the new Douglas Hospital and massive growth around the School of Medicine and the medical center while obtaining full accreditation for the School of Medicine and, despite an ongoing recession, achieving fiscal stability with a $46 million turn around.
